From John J. Trause: Classic Quiche Café

Dear Family & Friends,

Please join us for this eventful evening of poetry and music. Here is the message from hosts Denise LaNeve and Paul Nash:

The North Jersey Literary Series

presents

poet/publisher/performance artist

David Messineo

performing poems from Act 1 & Act 2 of his book Formal,

reading original formal/structured poetry

while attired in a tuxedo –

audience members are encouraged

to dress elegantly for the evening.

8 PM in the Special Events Room of the
Classic Quiche Café
330 Queen Anne Road, Teaneck, New Jersey
FREE

2 Sets by our feature plus Open Mic

Space and sound are unrivaled by any other venue

Hosted by Paul Nash and Denise La Neve

Café phone: 201 692 0150

Come early and enjoy a relaxing meal.
The quiches are famous, and there are also other wonderful entrees,
as well as coffees, teas, & desserts

Though we have a core group of regulars who attend our monthly "fourth Saturday" readings, we welcome new, attentive guests. Formal dress is encouraged for this special reading: Ladies - a nice opportunity to dress to the hilt. Gentlemen - anything other than T-shirts and jeans is preferred. An open reading will be nestled between the two feature sets, as is our monthly custom.

The feature reading will be videotaped. At the conclusion of his set for Act 1 (before our intermission and open mic), Mr. Messineo will debut his most recent poem, "To Be Or Not to Be," which was written in memory of Tyler Clementi and the other gay teens who have taken their lives in recent weeks - and which will be published in Sensations Magazine Issue 48, "21st Century America," coming out this November, and in his seventh book Historiopticon, coming in April 2013.

Though Mr. Messineo has written extensively on harassment, bullying, same-sex marriage, illegal immigration, and American injustice and intolerance in his books Restoration and Formal and has educated the public on inequality issues for 25 years, "To Be Or Not To Be" is his first poem specifically about gay teen suicide - and those who wish to hear what he has to say on this topic are strongly encouraged to attend.

David Messineo is a three-consecutive-year winner in the national American Literary Magazine Awards, including two First Place Awards, and in 2009 was honored with a New Jersey State Jefferson Award for Public Service, for his American history research, publishing, and programming efforts through The Six Centuries Club, and his almost-quarter-century of volunteer service offering Sensations Magazine.

Mr. Messineo is the author of five previous poetry collections: First Impressions, Suburban Gothic, A Taste of Italy, A Taste of Brazil, and Restoration. The final First Edition hardcover copies of his sixth book, Formal, will be available for purchase for $20 (bring cash or checkbooks - checks would be made payable to "The Six Centuries Club"). If he sells out Formal, his literary arts organizations break even financially without government grant funding, making him one of very few literary magazine publishers in the United States to achieve this challenging goal.

Mr. Messineo also will have on hand poetry submission requirements for the Spring 2011 "American Presidents" Poetry Contest (deadline Mon Nov 29, 2010) - and information about ordering a subscription that would include Sensations Magazine Issue 48.

Consider coming early to Classic Quiche for dinner, to celebrate Mr. Messineo's 48th Birthday (October 10), and the other October birthdays in our group.

Learn more about Mr. Messineo and his other Formal tour stops at www.sensationsmag.com, "Upcoming Events" button.

I hope to see you there!

picture from this website, http://red.jerryandmartha.com/

Dear Family & Friends,

I am pleased and honored to be asked to appear along with some of my fellow Red Wheelbarrow Poets in Oradell, N. J. at the Oradell Public Library, of which I have been Library Director since March 2010. A number of us will be presenting our poetry, which has recently been published in the third annual volume of The Rutherford Red Wheelbarrow, on this evening.

The Friends of the Oradell Public Library have arranged for the Red Wheelbarrow Poets to be featured at a special program on Monday, November 8, 2010, and we are grateful to them and to the Red Wheelbarrow Poets, especially Sondra Singer Beaulieu, who helped coordinate this program.

The program is free and light refreshments will be served.

Here are the specifics:

WHAT: Featured poets and an open mic, if time permits.

WHERE: Oradell Public Library, 375 Kinderkamack Road (with the entrance on Church Street), Oradell, NJ 07649. Phone: 201-262-2613 – Website: http://oradell.bccls.org/index.html

WHEN: Monday, November 8, 2010

TIME: 7 p. m. The Library closes at 9 p. m.

Copies of The Rutherford Red Wheelbarrow will be on sale.

This group just had a very successful reading at neighboring Haworth Public Library on Monday, October 12th.

For me this is an even more special honor, since this takes place at the Oradell Public Library, which has become a second home to me. I am pleased and proud to serve the community of Oradell in such a beautiful place.

Please come out and support us.

Love & Peace,

JOHN
